That's What Friends Are For

I've been very busy lately. I'm sorry I haven't kept up with ya'll, but not too much has been going on, other than having a house full of guests from Houston! One of my good friends called on Wednesday last week and was ready to come visit for a few days to get away from the treat of Rita. She brought her boyfriend, his brother, and her two cats with her! It was wonderful to have the company, but we sure were crowded in my small one bedroom apartment.

I have my first Chemistry test to take tomorrow, so I need to get off here. I just wanted to let you all know that I am still alive and kicking. Thank you for your kind words and thoughts on my acceptance into nursing school. I'll know more on October 21, when I have orientation. Until then, it's hurry up and wait . . . again!

It's Official, I'm In!

I got home about an hour ago. I checked my mail and the long awaited letter was in my mailbox. I could hardly make it to my door before I opened the envelope. Congratulations! Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Today, I would like to dedicate my post to the most wonderful father in the world. I got to talk to Daddy for a few minutes this morning and personally wish him a happy birthday. My dad has always been supportive and caring throughout my life. He has been there by me through thick and thin. (In fact, both my parents have, but it is Daddy's birthday! I do love you, too, Mom!) I am so thankful that God blessed me with the parents that I have. Thank you for everything, Daddy. I love you very much and hope you have a very happy birthday! Wish I was there to celebrate with you! Make sure Mom gives you that big birthday hug and kiss from me! I love you!

Modern Medicine

I realized today how well my medicine was working to prevent my headaches when I had one hit with a vengence around 5:45. I haven't had a really bad headache in over a week and probably closer to two, so it took me by surprise. Thankfully, I was in a room with a patient all day, so I was able to control the volume of noise and amount of light in the room, to a certain extent. I just got home and was able to take my stronger medicine that will probably knock me out within the next 1/2 hour or so. This won't be long. Just enough to thank God and the many researchers for continously making new drugs that will make our lives more comfortable. In the past I would have just come home and slept this headache off (or at least attempted to), but now, I can try to make it go away! Thank you! I also want to thank my friends and family for being patient through these times of all my medication changes and such. Ya'll have been great. Until next time!

I survived!

Before I start in with my saga of the weekend, I thought I'd share a pic from my nephew's birthday! He's such a happy kid! I'm sure I'll have many more pics to share with you!

Well, I made it through my first full week at the hospital. It was stressful at times, but always well worth it. The hugs and smiles from thankful patients always make me love my job.

I think I'm feeling better. I don't particularly like having to use an inhaler as much as I do, but if it will make me feel better, then I guess I'm up for about anything right now.

I'm off tomorrow. Looking forward to having a day to catch up on school work again. I feel like I get caught up just to get behind again. I guess that's how most of life goes. Have a good night!

'Tis The Season!

Well, it seems that the time of year for me to get sick has arrived again ~ and all too soon as far as I'm concerned. I woke up yesterday morning with a horrible cough that reminded me of last winter, when the doctor diagnosed me with bronchitis 3 different times. I called my new doctor's office this morning and was able to get in. As it turns out, I have asthma. My coughing is a horrible symptom of my asthma. I had a breathing treatment and felt an incredible load come off my chest. I feel a lot better knowing what is actually wrong with me and that I don't have bronchitis again.
I have been out of the loop a little bit. Been working a lot and trying not to get sicker. School work keeps piling up, so forgive me if I don't get posted as much as I want to. Thank you for checking in on me. I look forward to hearing back from you soon!

Happy Labor Day!

A day of work off ~ and with pay! I love days like today. I was able to sleep in after a long, hard day's work yesterday and the rest of the day will be devoted to school work and little things around the house that I've been neglecting. What A Day

I'm so tired. My twelve hour shifts at the hospital always wear me out, but they are so rewarding. I always have patients that touch my heart in some way. It makes me so thankful for my good health. It also makes me more aware of the care that I want my family and friends to recieve. I see the way some of the nurses and techs behave and I just pray that my grandparents don't get caretakers like that when they are in the hospital. I try to treat all of my patients the way I would like my grandparents or parents to be taken care of.
On top of patient care, we always have the normal glitches. Today's happened to be a little bit larger scale than most. We briefly lost the power to the hospital. Apparently, a van hit the power line in front of the hospital and took out the traffic lights and the power to the hospital. Then we had the fire alarm that went off because someone accidently pulled an alarm. That's always fun. We have to close all the room doors and listen to the horrific alarm sounding in our ears until they get it turned off.

Long Weekend - What's That?

I got off early from work today for Labor Day weekend. I was supposed to go to the doctor, but on the way there, they called and had to reschedule my appointment due to an emergency. It was nice to have an early afternoon. I've gotten a lot done around the house that I haven't had time to do lately. However, it won't be a long weekend off for me. Instead, I will be working my long weekend at the hospital. It is okay, though. I really enjoy my job at the hospital. I do have Monday off. I look forward to having a day of rest, with nowhere to go and no deadlines to meet. I don't even have to go to class. Wow, what ever will I do with 24 whole hours of free time? I'm sure we will all find out soon enough. Until then, I have to get back to the laundry. I hope you all have a great day (or night as the case may be).

This was the highlight of my day, so I won't stress you with the boring details of my tedious job.
