A journal (or rant) of my life as I journey through the ups and downs of my life as a wife and nurse. Enter at your own risk.

And, the results . . . . . .
Well, I passed my scenario today, but not without nearly losing my mind. If you want the full details, you'll have to email me or call me because it's almost too embarrassing to post on the WWW! Needless to say, I will be making a trip back to my doctor to adjust my anxiety meds AGAIN. I'm just thankful I passed. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Now let's all pray that I get the tea stain out of my white scrub pants! (They are soaking in Oxiclean right now!) An update on that next time! Until then . . .

Busy, busy, busy . . .
Sorry it's been a little while, but a lot has been going on. I've had my first major exam, and passed. Continue to have clinicals and the massive amounts of paperwork that go along with that. And tomorrow I have my first lab test where I have to prove my proficency at performing vital signs with an instructor watching and listening with me. I will try to get one of my classmates to take a pic of me in all my getup so you can see how adorable I look in white with my hair pulled back and all.
The other reason I wanted to post tonight was to let you know that we had class elections today and I was elected to be class secretary. We'll see how that goes. I'm happy about it, but it does add another task to my plate. I'll try to keep you updated with that.
I have also inherited children. I am now the second mother to a 10 year old and a 15 year old. My friend, Misty, from the hospital has moved across the street. Since we work 12 hr shifts there, she needed help getting the kids to and from school. I kinda volunteered to help her out. They are good kids. I'll also try to get a pic of them up.
That's all I have time for right now. Gotta try to get some rest, but my tummy is churning like crazy. I'll let you know if I pass or not. But I know what I am doing and have confidence that I will pass. Please just say and extra special prayer for me! ;-) Until next time . . . . .

Clinicals
Ok, so I haven't posted in a week. Part of that is due to the fact that I honestly don't know what is up or down right now. We have a theory exam on Monday, a lab senario on the 23rd, and a major graded nursing care plan due on the 27th. Somewhere in between all of this, I have to find time to get down to the hospital I have clinicals during the week (Monday afternoons) pick up patient information (takes anywhere from 1-3 hours) and then come home and do all the prep work (roughly 5-7 hours). Then Tuesday, we go to the hospital and actually take care of patients. It was all very overwhelming this week (I noticed I've said that a lot, but it really is true!). I was up much later than I have been used to, but I have survived! The other speed bump I've had has been my migraines! They have returned with a vengance. I followed up with my neurologist today and we agreed to increase my topamax to 100 mg over 2 weeks. I see him again in two weeks and then get an rx for the bigger pill, so I don't have to take 4 small ones. This has been a difficult challenge because I just want to sleep when I have a headache and I honestly can't think very clearly, but I know I need to study. What's a girl to do? Oh well, hopefully this will help. Sorry it took me so long to get back with you. Thank you for being patient with me (and understanding that it will probably be like this for the next few years!) Until next time, say special prayers for me (I know you already do) about my theory exam especially. I'm a little nervous, but am really trying hard not to stress too much about it. I'm going to do the best I can do with what I have learned (thanks mom and dad) and go from there! It won't be the end of the world if I don't make an A (even though my ego may think so!) I'll quit rambling and let you actually read this. Have a great weekend. Until next time . . .

Mush
That word sums up how my brain feels after my 3rd week of nursing school. I'm not sure if I'm coming or going some days. And some days I am lucky if I make it the mile home! That was my day yesterday. I could hardly comprehend anything else that was coming out of anyone's mouth or going through my head. I've got two weeks until my first test and I'm scared. They keep telling us that our tests for nursing school are nothing like we've ever taken before, but when we ask what to study, the feedback is just to read and comprehend what we are reading. But if we take the time to read everything, we won't have time to do all the other required work and . . . you get the picture. Needless to say, I'm slightly overwhelmed. The whole clinical experience doesn't worry me. I know the hospital environment and am comfortable there. It's everything else that I stress about. Oh well. Another week is gone. Don't be surprised if you find a counter on here before too long for how many days and such I have left til graduation! That's just the mindset I'm in. LOL! Hope you all have a great weekend! Take care and I'll have happy studying while you are relaxing!
